Historical Calendars Continue Garnavillo Gem of the Prairie History

Garnavillo’s 2025 Historical Photo Calendar continues the stroll down Garnavillo’s Main Street with a few detours to include the Garnavillo Brewery, Meuser Lumber Yard, the old stone school and the creamery. Each photo and business location are researched as to date and history, bringing the viewer up to current times. The 2025 calendars are available at the Garnavillo Public Library, Corner Shoppe, New York Life office and the Garnavillo Museum for $10.00.

After printing, the occasion being celebrated in this photo was identified: Inauguration of President Cleveland 1885.

The Garnavillo Historical Society started the annual calendars’ ” Main Street Garnavillo” theme in 2022 and has continued through 2025, highlighting the history of buildings that no longer stand on Main Street and buildings that remain. The photos used for the calendars have involved a considerable amount of research to properly date and identify as well as bring their history to current times. But the Historical Society Board considers the calendars a viable way to continue the history started in the Garnavillo Gem of the Prairie book.

At the suggestion of Bill Robinson, the Society started producing the historical photo calendars in 2018. The first years were “themed.” 2018 was antique cars, 2019 agriculture, 2020 recreation, and 2021 focused on the churches of Garnavillo and the surrounding area. Some years, (2018, 2019. and 2023) have totally sold out, while for other years there are still a few calendars available for $5.00.  Only a limited number of calendars are printed each year.

Contact the Garnavillo Historical Society (garnavillohistoricalsociety@gmail.com) for more information on obtaining any of the calendars.  Shipping is available with buyer covering cost.
