About Us
The Garnavillo Historical Society was organized in 1965 as a non-profit charity. It owns 4 historical buildings: church, log cabin, lodge hall and legal office. Over the years it has created a museum of area history in the church, provided educational opportunities for students, published the book: Garnavillo, Gem of the Prairie, supported the development of the Prairie Winds Garden, digitized historical newspapers dating as far back as 1853, and provided resources for research on historical people, events and places of the area. It is comprised of members and volunteers led by a Board of Directors of seven members. The Garnavillo Historical Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity and relies heavily on monetary donations and grants.
The Mission of the Garnavillo Historical Society is to keep the history of Garnavillo and its surrounding area alive through exhibits, preservation of written history and artifacts, education and interaction with the community.
