The Garnavillo Museum opened to visitors Saturday, June 6. Volunteers worked hard all spring to add and update exhibits for the new season. Visitors this year should check out new information on an old Garnavillo Jail as well as a new exhibit on Ceres (formerly Independence). More pioneer farming and woodworking tools have been added to the existing exhibits including items designed and used by the late Christian H. Kuempel
(1824-1900), who owned a furniture and hardware business in Clayton, Iowa. A new exhibit of telegraph, telephone, and electrical insulators has also been added. And a stereoscope viewer and cards are available for visitors to experience early 3-D viewing.
Additonal exhibit items have been added to the Log Cabin and the Lodge Hall is sporting new ceiling tiles. Updates to the Prairie Winds Garden shed and fence are currently in progress.
