2023 Season Wrap Up for Historical Society

Early Settlers Subject of UNI Student Research

UNI student, Lindsey Thuente, recently completed her Spring semester History Public Field Experience for the Garnavillo Historical Society.  Lindsey chose a remote research project of gathering information on 8 early settlers to the Jacksonville/Garnavillo area.  She then created profiles of each for posting on a new exhibit at the museum.  Jane Thein, Garnavillo Historical Society

Garnavillo’s Main Street Continues as Theme for 2023 Calendar

This building pictured, known as the “J.H. Tangeman” building, was built on the NE corner of Main and Centre streets in Garnavillo in 1880-1881. Julius Henry Tangeman built the brick building on the corner south of his existing business (across from the park) where he’d been dealing in dry goods, groceries, clothing, boots, shoes, etc.
